Do teachers really need NANTU?
Yes they do because... the forming of a trade union is inevitable wherever there are two groups with different interests.
Two Groups
These two groups are: the EMPLOYER (MoE) and the TEACHERS (NANTU):
WHAT ARE THESE GROUPS INTERESTED IN?
The employers; their interest is to get the most from labour (service) at the lowest possible cost without any co-determination from the teachers' part
The teachers; their interest is to get a decent return of the service rendered and to be involved in all kind of decisions made within the ministry/institution, on behalf of labour form of factors as an equal one to capital.
Because of this opposition or conflict of interest, teachers have go combine together to meet the MoE on their common demands.
That's why the natural instrument of the teachers is their union – NANTU.
THE POSITION OF AN UNORGANISED TEACHER
- Acting alone you cannot achieve anything
- In terms of protecting yourself from the harmful acts of the employer
- In securing better working conditions
- In seeking the passage of laws protecting teachers and as an individual
- You will find yourself utterly powerless an at the employers' mercy
